The 9 Secrets the Big Windows Guys Do NOT Want You to Know

1)  3-Day Rescission Clause
All in home sales must have this clause in their contracts as per the law.  This is a very useful tool when sitting across the table from a high-pressure salesman.  If he won’t take "no" for an answer.. Buy it all!!!
Just call their office the next day and cancel the order.

2)  Higher Pricing
Pricing comes down to two things; how they buy and the overhead that the business carries. If the business has a $250,000 showroom with many employees and trucks, its overhead will possibly be as high as 45%. A small company with the owner working will carry as little as 10%.

3)  "Free Installation" Scam
Point - Who works for free?  Ask your salesman for a price on the materials only, you will install.  Do you think he'll still be asking the same money for just materials?

4)  Companies that promise to save you money on your heating bill
Read the fine print!  Usually, you will find that in order to qualify you must do all of your windows and doors using their best (most expensive) product.  Some even ask that you have them insulate the walls and the attic or have vinyl siding installed!!  The other catch is that most companies will only rebate you the promised figure or percentage for one month's bill!!  What a deal when you were already over charged by thousands!!

5) Scratch and Dent sales
Can be a very good deal IF that is what you are looking for.  The scam here is called "Bait and Switch" and basically involves getting you into the showroom so a sales person can get you interested in a different product -- of course at a higher cost.

6)  "Sale" Prices
This scam comes down to one question.  Do you really know what the real original price was?  List price can be anything the dealer wants it to be!

7)  Home Shows
A small company will close (sell) eight out of ten sales calls.  A large company, more along the lines of two or three.  Therefore, the larger (more expensive) companies need to get in front of a much larger group of people to sell enough to stay in business and turn their big profits.

Home shows are very expensive.  Booth rentals range from $750 to $3,000.00.  Set up costs, moving costs and manning the booth push up overhead prices for the company.

Check pricing with another smaller company before buying.

8)  Telemarketing
Never, ever buy anything from these people!!!

9)  The $189 Scam
When these people began doing business in the Western NY area, we wanted to know how this deal worked.  We had a relative call and they asked to have a salesperson sent out to their house.  After an hour of pushing and heat lamp sales techniques, our relative asked FOUR times to see the $189 window.

Each time the salesman said that he would be getting to that part, but always asked the same question, “Would you really want a window of lesser quality in your home?”

To shorten this up.. the salesperson saw he wasn’t going to make his sale at $700 / window, so he packed up his stuff and left!!!  So it seems this is just another version of the “Bait & Switch” technique.

In summary, I leave you with one rule of thumb!!

Check out the company.  Do they look wealthy?  All brand new trucks, a monster showroom, full page ads, does the salesman pull up in your drive in a Caddy?  All of these things drive overhead higher.  Guess who pays the higher overhead?  YOU, the customer!
