
Taking Proper Care of Your Windows
If you take proper care of your windows they will give you many years of trouble free use. It is a simple matter. Not a long complicated thing to do. If you follow the information given here you will have many years without any major problems to your windows.
BASIC CLEANING
1. Use only mild soap or glass cleaner
2. Clean the surfaces of the frame
3. Clean the tracks and weep holes
4. Check the weather stripping and hardware
5. Vacuum dirt and grit from the sill and track before you wash
6. To clean screens: remove, wash on a flat surface. Use a soft brush and mild cleanser. Rinse and wipe dry before re-installing
THINGS NOT TO DO
1. Never use razors or sharp objects on the frame surface
2. Do not use any petroleum based cleansers or solvents
3. Do not use oil-based lubricants on the tracks
4. Do not wash the glass in direct sunlight
5. Do not use a high pressure nozzle to rinse after washingYou can expect some color change in the framing over the years after exposure to sunlight and weather. The American Architectural Manufacturers Association has set standards for the window manufacturers to meet that sets allowable changes.
